If perfection were attained through the Levitical priesthood (for through it the people received the law), what further need was there that another priest should rise in the order of Melchizedek, rather than established in the order of Aaron?

I do not nullify the grace of God. For if righteousness comes by the law, then Christ died in vain.

So when we were children, we were in bondage to the elements of the world.

But now, after you have known God, or rather are known by God, how do you turn again to the weak and worthless elemental forces to which you desire again to be in bondage?

being designated by God a High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek.

As He also says in another place: “You are a priest forever in the order of Melchizedek.”

This is where Jesus has entered for us as a forerunner, since He has become the everlasting High Priest in the order of Melchizedek.

for he was still in the loins of his father when Melchizedek met Abraham.

For a change in the priesthood necessitates a change in the law.

For the One concerning whom these things are spoken pertains to another tribe, from which no man served at the altar.

This is far more evident when another priest arises in the likeness of Melchizedek,

(Other priests were made without an oath, but this One with an oath by the One who said to Him: “The Lord has sworn and will not relent, ‘You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.’ ” )

For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no occasion would have been sought for a second.

Now when these things were thus ordained, the priests would regularly go into the first part, conducting the services of God.
