I will be a father to him, and he will be a son to Me. When he goes astray, I will correct him with the rod of men and afflictions of the sons of men.

It is good for me that I have been afflicted, that I might learn Your statutes.

I know, O  Lord, that Your judgments are right, and that in faithfulness You have afflicted me.

Blessed is the man whom You discipline, O  Lord, and teach from Your law,

He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines him diligently.

O  Lord, correct me, but with justice, not in Your anger, lest You bring me to nothing.

Why should a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?

You must also consider in your heart that, as a man disciplines his son, so the Lord your God disciplines you.

Blessed is the man who endures temptation, for when he is tried, he will receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.

Behold, we consider them blessed who endure. You have heard of the patience of Job and have seen the purpose of the Lord, that the Lord is very gracious and merciful.

“Those whom I love, I rebuke and discipline. Therefore be zealous and repent.
