The Lord said to Samuel, “How long will you mourn for Saul, since I have rejected him from ruling over Israel? Fill your horn with oil and go. I will send you to Jesse the Bethlehemite, for I have chosen a king for Myself from among his sons.”

In due time Hannah conceived and bore a son. And she called his name Samuel, for she said, “I have asked him of the Lord.”

Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of the Lord came on David from that day forward. So Samuel arose and went to Ramah.

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may increase?

Then Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. And the boy ministered to the Lord before Eli the priest.

So the woman bore a son, and she called him Samson. The boy grew, and the Lord blessed him.

Now the angel of the Lord came and sat under the oak tree in Ophrah belonging to Joash the Abiezrite. Gideon his son was threshing wheat in a winepress to hide it from the Midianites.

When Ehud was dead, the Israelites once more did what was evil in the sight of the Lord.

The Israelites did evil in the sight of the Lord, so the Lord gave them into the hands of Midian for seven years.

Then the Lord turned to him and said, “Go in this strength of yours. Save Israel from the control of Midian. Have I not sent you?”

Samson judged Israel for twenty years in the days of the Philistines.

“The bows of the mighty are broken, but those who stumbled are girded with strength.

Then David said to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, a spear, and a shield, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have reviled.
