These all died in faith not having received the promises, but having seen them from afar were assured of them, embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

Abraham stayed in the land of the Philistines many days.

“I am a stranger and a foreigner among you. Give me property for a burying place among you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.”

Then Abraham breathed his last and died at a good old age, an old man and full of years; and he was gathered to his people.

And Jacob said to Pharaoh, “The days of the years of my pilgrimage are one hundred and thirty years. My days of the years of my life have been few and evil, and they have not attained to the days of the years of the lives of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage.”

Then Israel said to Joseph, “Behold, I am about to die, but God will be with you and return you again to the land of your fathers.

The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh comes; and to him will be the obedience of the people.

I wait for Your salvation, O  Lord!

These are all the twelve tribes of Israel, and this is what their father said to them when he blessed them. He blessed them, each with the blessing appropriate to him.

When Jacob finished instructing his sons, he drew his feet into the bed, breathed his last, and was gathered to his people.

Joseph said to his brothers, “I am about to die. God will surely come to you and bring you out of this land to the land of which He swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.”

For I know that my Redeemer lives, and He will stand at last on the earth;

I am a stranger on the earth; hide not Your commandments from me.

Hear my prayer, O  Lord, and give ear to my cry; do not be silent at my tears. For I am a stranger with You, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were.

Then she gave birth to a son, and he called his name Gershom, for he said, “I have been a sojourner in a foreign land.”

The land shall not be permanently sold, for the land is Mine, for you are foreigners and sojourners with Me.

Hobab said to him, “I will not go. But I will depart to my own land, and to my kindred.”

“I will see him, but not now; I will behold him, but not near; a star will come out of Jacob, and a scepter will rise out of Israel, and will crush the borderlands of Moab, and destroy all the Shethites.

For truly I say to you that many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which you see, and have not seen them, and to hear those things which you hear, and have not heard them.

Isaiah said this when he saw His glory and spoke of Him.

Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day. He saw it and was glad.”

and being fully persuaded that what God had promised, He was able to perform.

For we are saved through hope, but hope that is seen is not hope, for why does a man still hope for what he sees?

while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

Therefore we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord.

Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God,

Those who say such things declare plainly that they are looking for a homeland.

By faith Abraham, when he was tested, offered up Isaac, and he who had received the promises offered up his only son.

By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king. He endured by looking to Him who is invisible.

These all have obtained a good report through faith, but they did not receive the promise.

Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To the refugees scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

And if you address as Father the One who impartially judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves in fear during the time of your sojourning.

Dearly beloved, I implore you as aliens and refugees, abstain from fleshly lusts, which wage war against the soul.

By this we know that we are of the truth, and shall reassure our hearts before Him.
