So Israel set out with all that he had and came to Beer-sheba and offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.

From there he continued on to a mountain to the east of Bethel and pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord.

So Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread and a skin of water and gave it to Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, and sent her away with the child. So she departed and wandered in the Wilderness of Beer-sheba.

Therefore he called that place Beer-sheba, because the two of them swore an oath there.

Abraham planted a tamarisk tree in Beer-sheba, and there he called on the name of the Lord, the Everlasting God.

And Abraham lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by his horns. So Abraham went and took the ram and offered him up as a burnt offering in the place of his son.

Then Jacob went out from Beer-sheba and went toward Harran.

And behold, the Lord stood above it and said, “I am the Lord God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac. The land on which you lie, to you will I give it and to your descendants.

If the God of my father, the God of Abraham and the Fear of Isaac, had not been with me, surely you would have sent me away empty now. God has seen my affliction and the labor of my hands and rebuked you last night.”

The God of Abraham, the God of Nahor, and the God of their father, judge between us.” Then Jacob vowed by the Fear of his father Isaac.

He erected an altar there and called it El-Elohe-Israel.

Let us arise and go up to Bethel, and there I will make an altar to God, who answered me in the day of my distress and has been with me wherever I have gone.”

There he built an altar and called the place El-bethel, because God had appeared to him there when he fled from his brother.

Abel also brought the firstborn of his flock and of their fat portions. And the Lord had respect for Abel and for his offering,

Then Israel said, “Enough! Joseph my son is still alive. I will go and see him before I die.”

Then Noah built an altar to the Lord and took of every clean animal and of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar.

Now when the days of feasting had run their course, Job sent and sanctified them. He would rise up early in the morning, and he would offer burnt offerings according to the number of them all, because Job said: “It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts.” Thus Job would do always.

And now, take for yourselves seven bulls and seven rams, and go to My servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and My servant Job will pray for you. For him I will accept, lest I deal with you according to your folly, in that you have not spoken of Me the thing which is right like My servant Job.”

The high places of Isaac will be destroyed, the sanctuaries of Israel will be laid waste, and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.”

Then Jacob went down into Egypt. And he and our fathers died,

To Isaac I gave Jacob and Esau, and to Esau I gave Mount Seir for his inheritance, but Jacob and his descendants went down into Egypt.

All Israel from Dan even to Beer-sheba knew that Samuel was proven to be a prophet of the Lord.

Now the name of his firstborn son was Joel, and the name of his second son was Abijah. They were judging in Beer-sheba.
