He deceives those who dwell on the earth by the signs which he was granted to do in the presence of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by a sword and lived.

They worshipped the dragon who gave authority to the beast. And they worshipped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to wage war with him?”

Will you yet say before him who slays you, “I am a god,” although you are a man and not God, in the hands of those who wound you?

Because with lies you have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad, and strengthened the hands of the wicked that he should not turn from his wicked way and save his life,

those who say, “With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are in our control. Who is our master?”

Now do not let Hezekiah trick or lead you all astray in this. And do not believe him, for no god from any nation or kingdom has been able to deliver his people from my hand or the hand of my fathers. How much less will your God deliver you from my hand?”

Speak, and say, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great dragon that lies in the midst of his rivers, which has said, “My Nile is my own, and I myself have made it.”

Son of man, take up a lamentation over the king of Tyre and say to him, Thus says the Lord God: You had the seal of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty.

Out of the ground the Lord God made to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food. The tree of life was also in the midst of the garden, along with the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

(so that later generations of the Israelites who did not know war before might know it, to teach them how to fight):
