So Esau said to Jacob, “Please feed me some of that red stew, for I am famished.” Therefore his name was called Edom.

Now Jacob cooked a stew; and Esau came in from the field and he was famished.

Then Jacob said, “First sell me your birthright.”

Jacob sent messengers before him to his brother Esau in the land of Seir, the country of Edom.

He commanded them, saying, “This is what you must say to my lord Esau: This is what your servant Jacob says, ‘I have sojourned with Laban and stayed there until now.

Now these are the generations of Esau, who is Edom.
