Now Isaac pleaded with the Lord for his wife, because she was barren; and the Lord granted his plea, and Rebekah his wife conceived.

But Sarai was barren; she had no child.

And Sarai said to Abram, “Behold now, the Lord has prevented me from having children. Please go in to my maid; it may be that I will obtain children through her.” Abram listened to Sarai.

Then God remembered Rachel, and God listened to her and opened her womb.

They were helped against them, and the Hagrites and all who were with them were delivered into their hand, for they cried to God in the battle, and He heard their prayer because they trusted in Him.

And he prayed to God, and He was moved and responded to his plea and returned him to Jerusalem to his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the Lord was God.

So we fasted and sought our God for this, and He was moved by our prayers.

Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.

O You who hear prayer, to You shall all flesh come.

He will call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him.

The fear of the wicked will come upon him, but the desire of the righteous will be granted.

Thus says the Lord, the Holy One of Israel and his maker: Ask Me of things to come concerning My sons, and you shall commit to Me the work of My hands.

Then you shall call, and the Lord shall answer; you shall cry, and He shall say, Here I am. If you take away the yoke from your midst, the pointing of the finger, and speaking wickedness,

So she made a vow and said, “O  Lord of Hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant, and remember me and not forget Your maidservant, but will give to Your maidservant a baby boy, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall touch his head.”

Then Eli answered, “Go in peace, and the God of Israel grant you your request that you have asked of Him.”

And he had two wives; the name of one was Hannah and the name of the second was Peninnah. Now Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.

For this boy I prayed, and the Lord has given me my petition which I asked of Him.
