So Abraham took sheep and oxen and gave them to Abimelech, and the two of them made a covenant.

Then one who had escaped came and told Abram the Hebrew, who was living near the oaks of Mamre the Amorite, brother of Eshkol and Aner, and these were allies with Abram.

And Abimelech said, “I do not know who has done this. You did not tell me, and I have not heard of it until today.”

Now therefore come, let us make a covenant, you and I, and let it be as a witness between you and me.”

without understanding, covenant breakers, without natural affection, calloused, and unmerciful,

Brothers, I am speaking in human terms: Though it is only a man’s covenant, yet if it is ratified, no one annuls or adds to it.

Then Jonathan and David made a covenant because he loved him as his own soul.
