Then David took hold of his clothes and tore them, as did all of the men who were with him.

They shall not make bald areas on their heads, nor shall they shave off the edges of their beards, nor make any cuts in their flesh.

Make yourself bald and shave your head for the children of your delight; make yourself as bald as the eagle, for they will go from you into exile.

Then Joshua ripped his clothes. He and the Israelite elders fell on their faces to the ground in front of the ark of the Lord until evening and threw dirt upon their heads.
