Now when these things were done, the leaders contacted me, saying, “The people of Israel, the priests, and the Levites have not separated themselves from the people of the lands. They practice the abominations of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites.

But King Solomon loved many foreign women in addition to the daughter of Pharaoh, women of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Sidonians, and Hittites,

Shecaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, answered Ezra, saying, “We have acted with vile unfaithfulness against our God and have wedded foreign women from the people of the land, yet there is now hope in Israel concerning this.

Whoever would not come within three days would forfeit all his possessions, according to the counsel of the leaders and the elders, and would himself be excluded from the congregation of the exiles.

Moreover, in those days I also saw Jews who had married the women of Ashdod, Ammon, and Moab.

Now Tobiah the Ammonite was beside him, and he said, “What they are rebuilding, if even a fox climbed up it, he would break down their stone wall!”

When Sanballat, Tobiah, the Arabians, the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites heard how the restoration of Jerusalem’s walls was progressing and how the breaches had begun to be sealed, it made them extremely furious.

The offspring of Israel separated themselves from all the foreigners and then stood and confessed their sins and the iniquities of their fathers.

but they mingled with the nations and learned their works;

It shall be when the Lord brings you into the land of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, which He swore to your fathers to give you, a land flowing with milk and honey, that you shall keep this ceremony in this month.

For My angel will go before you and bring you to the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, and I will completely destroy them.

For how will it be known that I have found favor in Your sight, I and Your people? Is it not by Your going with us, so that we will be distinguished, I and Your people, from all the people who are on the face of the earth?”

Depart, depart, go out from there, touch no unclean thing; go out of the midst of her; be clean, you who bear the vessels of the Lord.

When the officials of Judah heard these things, then they came up from the king’s house to the house of the Lord and sat down in the entry of the New Gate of the house of the Lord.

Then the officials and all the people said to the priests and to the prophets, “This man is not worthy of death, for he has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.”

After the practices of the land of Egypt, from where you lived, you shall not follow, and after the practices of the land of Canaan, to where I will bring you, you shall not follow; nor shall you walk in their ordinances.

Judah has dealt treacherously, and an abomination has been committed in Israel and Jerusalem. For Judah has profaned the sanctuary of the Lord, which He loves, and has married the daughter of a foreign god.

For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him; there, the people will dwell alone and will not be counted among the nations.

And behold, one of the Israelites came and brought to his brothers a Midianite woman in the sight of Moses, in the sight of all the assembly of the Israelites, who were weeping before the door of the tent of meeting.

When you enter into the land which the Lord your God gives you, you must not learn to practice the abominations of those nations.

The children who are born of them may enter the assembly of the Lord in their third generation.

When the Lord your God brings you into the land which you are entering to possess and has driven out many nations before you, the Hittites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Canaanites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than you,

“For if you should turn and cling to the remainder of these peoples who are left with you, and you intermarry and assimilate with them, and they with you,
