Ezekiel 8:3

Modern English Version

He stretched out the form of a hand and took me by a lock of my head. And the Spirit lifted me up between the earth and the heavens, and brought me in the visions of God to Jerusalem, to the entrance of the north gate of the inner court, where the seat of the image of jealousy was, which provokes to jealousy.

They have made Me jealous with that which is not God; they have provoked Me to anger with their empty things. And I will make them jealous of those who are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.

When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord took Philip away. And the eunuch saw him no more, and he went his way rejoicing.

Then He said to me, “Son of man, lift up your eyes now toward the north.” So I lifted up my eyes toward the north, and behold, north of the gate of the altar, in the entrance, was this image of jealousy.

They transformed the beauty of His ornaments into pride, and made the images of their abominations and of their detestable things with it; therefore I will make it an abhorrent thing to them.

So the Spirit lifted me up and took me away, and I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit, and the hand of the Lord was strong upon me.

Then the Spirit took me up, and I heard behind me a great thundering voice: “Blessed be the glory of the Lord in His place.”

But they set their abominations in the house which is called by My name, to defile it.

For the Judahites have done evil in My sight, says the Lord. They have set their abominations in the house which is called by My name, to pollute it.

For they provoked Him to anger with their high places and moved Him to jealousy with their graven images.

He put a carved image of Asherah that he had made in the house of which the Lord said to David and to Solomon his son, “In this house and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all tribes of Israel, I will put My name forever.

And the bronze altar that was before the Lord he moved from the front of the house, from between the altar and the house of the Lord. He put it on the north side of the new altar.

They said to him, “Behold now, there are fifty strong men with your servants. Let them go and look for your master. Perhaps the Spirit of the Lord has lifted him up and thrown him on some mountain or into some valley.” He said, “Do not send them.”

As soon as I am gone from you, the Spirit of the Lord will carry you to a place I do not know, and so when I come and tell Ahab and he cannot find you, he will execute me. But I, your servant, have feared the Lord since my youth.

Then Joshua said to the people, “You are not able to serve the Lord, for He is a holy God. He is a jealous God, and He will not forgive your transgressions or your sins.

Now the cherubim stood on the right side of the temple when the man went in, and the cloud filled the inner court.

The hand of the Lord was upon me, and He carried me out in the Spirit of the Lord and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones.

So the Spirit took me up and brought me into the inner court; and behold, the glory of the Lord filled the temple.

By setting their threshold by My threshold and their post by My posts and the wall between Me and them, they have even defiled My holy name by their abominations that they have committed. Therefore I have consumed them in My anger.

And behold, six men came from the way of the higher gate which lies toward the north, each with his battle weapon in his hand. And one man among them was clothed with linen with a writer’s case by his side. And they went in and stood beside the bronze altar.
