Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel, and say to them: Thus says the Lord God: Do you come to inquire of Me? As I live, says the Lord God, I will not be inquired of by you.

The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but the prayer of the upright is His delight.

The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination; how much more when he brings it with evil intent!

He who turns away his ear from hearing the law, even his prayer is an abomination.

When you come to appear before Me, who has required this at your hand, to trample My courts?

When you reach out your hands, I will hide My eyes from you; even when you make many prayers, I will not hear. Your hands are full of blood.

Yet they seek Me daily and delight to know My ways, as a nation that has done righteousness and has not forsaken the ordinance of their God. They ask Me for the ordinances of justice; they take delight in approaching God.

Then some of the elders of Israel came to me and sat before me.

Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying:

When you offer your gifts, when you make your sons to pass through the fire, you pollute yourselves with all your idols, even to this day. And shall I be inquired of by you, O house of Israel? As I live, says the Lord God, I will not be inquired of by you.

As for you, son of man, the sons of your people are talking about you by the walls and in the doorways of the houses; and they speak to one another, each saying to his brother, “Come now, and hear what the word is that comes from the Lord.”

They will wander from sea to sea, and from north to east; they will run back and forth to seek the word of the Lord, but they will not find it.

The seers will be shamed and the diviners disgraced, and they will all cover their beards, for there is no answer from God.

But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said to them, “You brood of vipers, who has warned you to escape from the wrath to come?

Then he said to the crowds that came out to be baptized by him, “You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship Him in spirit and truth.”

Saul inquired of the Lord, but the Lord did not answer him by dreams, or by lots, or by prophets.
