Behold, everyone who uses proverbs shall use this proverb against you, saying, “Like mother, like daughter.”

When Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, he got up to go down to the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite, to take possession of it.

There they burned incense on all the high places, as the nations did whom the Lord had carried away before them. And they did wicked things to provoke the Lord to anger,

They rejected His statutes and His covenant that He had made with their fathers and the decrees He had given them. They followed idols, and became idolaters, and followed the surrounding nations, concerning whom the Lord commanded them, that they should not do like them.

But they did not listen. Manasseh led them to do more evil than the nations whom the Lord had destroyed before the Israelites.

Now when these things were done, the leaders contacted me, saying, “The people of Israel, the priests, and the Levites have not separated themselves from the people of the lands. They practice the abominations of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Jebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites.

Son of man, what is this proverb that you people have in the land of Israel, saying, “The days are prolonged, and every vision fails”?

Tell them therefore, “Thus says the Lord God: I will make this proverb cease so that they shall no more use it as a proverb in Israel.” But say to them, The days are at hand and the effect of every vision.

and say, Thus says the Lord God to Jerusalem: Your birth and your native land are from the land of Canaan. Your father was an Amorite, and your mother a Hittite.

You are your mother’s daughter who loathed her husband and her children. And you are the sister of your sisters who loathed their husbands and their children. Your mother was a Hittite, and your father an Amorite.

As the proverb of the ancients says, ‘From the wicked comes forth wickedness,’ but my hand will not be against you.
