Modern English Version

Now the Lord said to Aaron, “Go into the wilderness to meet Moses.” So he went and met him at the mount of God, and kissed him.

Jacob kissed Rachel and wept aloud.

He arose and ate and drank and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb, the mountain of God.

He sent Moses, His servant, and Aaron whom He had chosen.

Then Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, came with his sons and his wife to Moses in the wilderness, where he camped at the mountain of God.

Then Moses went out to meet his father-in-law, and bowed down and kissed him; and they asked each other of the other’s welfare, and then they went into the tent.

Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain, saying, “Thus you shall say to the house of Jacob and tell the Israelites:

All the people witnessed the thunder and the lightning and the sound of the trumpet and the mountain smoking; and when the people saw it, they trembled and stood at a distance.

Moses rose up with Joshua his attendant, and Moses went up to the mountain of God.

Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the desert and came to the mountain of God, to Horeb.

So He let him go. Then she said, “You are a bloody husband,” because of the circumcision.

Two are better than one, because there is a good reward for their labor together.

So rise and go down, and go with them, doubting nothing. For I have sent them.”
