Exodus 4:1

Then Moses answered, “But behold, they will not believe me, nor listen to my voice. For they will say, ‘The Lord has not appeared to you.’ ”

He gave a sign the same day, saying, “This is the sign that the Lord has spoken: ‘Behold, the altar will be torn apart, and the ashes that are upon it will be poured out.’ ”

He said, “Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you intend to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?” Moses feared and said, “Surely this thing is known.”

God, moreover, said to Moses, “Thus you will say to the Israelites, ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.’

“Go, and gather the elders of Israel together, and say to them, ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared to me, saying, “I am indeed concerned about you and what has been done to you in Egypt.

“They shall listen to your voice, and you shall come, you and the elders of Israel, to the king of Egypt, and you must say to him, ‘The Lord, the God of the Hebrews has met with us. Therefore, now, let us go, we ask you, three days’ journey into the wilderness so that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God.’

Then Moses said to the Lord, “O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant. But I am slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.”

And Aaron spoke all the words which the Lord had spoken to Moses and did the signs in the sight of the people.

And the people believed. And when they heard that the Lord had visited the Israelites and that He had looked on their affliction, they bowed down and worshipped.

Moses spoke before the Lord, saying, “Behold, the Israelites have not listened to me. How then shall Pharaoh listen to me, as I am of uncircumcised lips?”

However, Moses said before the Lord, “Behold, I am unskilled in speech. Why should Pharaoh listen to me?”

Then I said, “Ah, Lord God! Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth.”

So the Spirit lifted me up and took me away, and I went in bitterness, in the heat of my spirit, and the hand of the Lord was strong upon me.

He supposed that his brothers would understand that God would deliver them by his hand, but they did not understand.

And he said to Him, “If I have found favor in Your sight, give me a sign that it is You who are speaking with me.
