And the Lord plagued the people because they had made the calf, the one that Aaron made.
So they made a calf in those days, and offered a sacrifice to the idol, and rejoiced in the works of their hands.
(Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity. And falling headlong, he burst asunder in the middle and all his organs spilled out.
Now when Moses saw the people were in a frenzy, for Aaron had let them get completely out of control, causing derision from their enemies,
He received them from their hand, and fashioned it with an engraving tool, and made it into a molded calf. Then they said, “This is your god, O Israel, who brought you up from the land of Egypt.”
But the Lord afflicted Pharaoh and his house with great plagues because of Abram’s wife, Sarai.
I said to them, ‘Whoever has any gold, let them break it off.’ So they gave it to me, and then I threw it into the fire, and this calf came out.”
The Levites did according to the word of Moses, and about three thousand men of the people died that day.
Those that died in the plague were twenty-four thousand.
