Exodus 30:12

Modern English Version

When you take the census of the Israelites according to their number, then each man is to pay a ransom for his life to the Lord when you count them, so that there be no plague among them when you number them.

But Joab said, “May the Lord increase the number of His people a hundred times more. My lord the king, are not all of them my lord’s servants? Why then should my lord require this? Why should it bring guilt on Israel?”

And they gave a report in Judah and Jerusalem to bring in to the Lord a tax levied by Moses the servant of God on Israel in the wilderness.
