Moses wrote all the words of the Lord, and rose up early in the morning, and built an altar at the foot of the mountain with twelve pillars for the twelve tribes of Israel.

Moses wrote this law and delivered it to the priests, the sons of Levi who bore the ark of the covenant of the Lord, and to all the elders of Israel.

He took the Book of the Covenant and read in the hearing of the people, and they said, “All that the Lord has said we will do, and we will be obedient.”

Then the Lord said to Moses: Write down these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.

In that day there shall be an altar to the Lord in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar to the Lord at its border.

The Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your descendants I will give this land.” So he built an altar to the Lord, who had appeared to him.

Then Joshua said to them, “Cross over before the ark of the Lord your God into the middle of the Jordan. Each of you lift up a stone upon your shoulder, one for each of the tribes of the Israelites,

Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the word of the Lord came saying, “Israel shall be your name,”

Now the names of those on the sealed agreement were: Nehemiah, the magistrate, the son of Hakaliah, and Zedekiah.
