but in the seventh year you shall let it rest and lie fallow, so that the poor of your people may eat, and what they leave the beasts of the field may eat. You shall do likewise with your vineyard and with your olive grove.

If the people of the land bring merchandise or any grain on the Sabbath day to sell, we will not buy from them on the Sabbath or a holy day. We will also renounce the seventh year harvest and the full payment of every debt.

We also establish for ourselves the ordinance to collect from ourselves annually one-third of a shekel for the service of the house of our God:

You shall sow your land for six years and shall gather in its produce,

For six days you are to do your work, but on the seventh day you must cease, so that your ox and your donkey may rest, and the son of your female servant and the foreigner may refresh themselves.

If you shall say, “What shall we eat in the seventh year, if we shall not sow nor gather in our crop?”

You shall sow in the eighth year, and eat yet of old crops until the ninth year until its crops come in for you.

Moreover you have not brought us into a land that flows with milk and honey, nor given us inheritance of fields and vineyards. Will you put out the eyes of these men? We will not come up.”

For the poor will never cease from being in the land. Therefore, I command you, saying, “You shall open your hand wide to your brother, to your poor and needy in your land.”
