If you will make Me an altar of stone, you shall not build it of cut stones, for if you use your tool on it, you will have polluted it.

The house was built of stone prepared at the quarry, so that neither hammer, nor axe, nor any tool of iron was heard in the house while it was being built.

as Moses the servant of the Lord had commanded the Israelites. As is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, it was “an altar of uncut stones not shaped by iron tools.” They sacrificed burnt offerings to the Lord on it, as well as peace offerings.
