Then I observed that all labor and skill of work come one person’s envy of another. This also is vanity and a chasing after wind.

For he had possessions of flocks and herds and a great number of servants so that the Philistines envied him.

Now Jacob heard the words of Laban’s sons, saying, “Jacob has taken away all that was our father’s, and he has gotten all his wealth from what was our father’s.”

Wrath is cruel and fury is a torrent, but who is able to stand before envy?

I have seen everything that is done under the sun; and behold, everything is vanity and like chasing the wind.

There was no limit to all the people, to all who were before him. But all those who were to come later would not rejoice in him. Surely this also is vanity and a chasing after wind.

For when there are many debating words, there is more vanity. What is the benefit to a person?

Better to be content with the sight of eyes than to have a wandering appetite. This is vanity and a chasing after wind.

For he knew that they had handed Him over out of envy.

“The patriarchs, moved with envy, sold Joseph into Egypt. But God was with him,

Do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “He yearns jealously for the spirit that lives in us” ?

not like Cain, who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother’s works were righteous.
