Then I turned to all the work that my hands had done, and all the labor in which I had toiled doing it; and again, all of it was vanity and chasing the wind, and there was no benefit under the sun.

I despised all the toil in which I labored under the sun, which I will give up to the man who comes after me.

And who knows if this man will be wise or foolish? Yet he will gain power over all for which I have toiled and used my wisdom under the sun. This also is vanity.

What becomes a man for all his labor and striving in his heart with which he toils under the sun?

What benefit does the worker have in his toil?

But better than both is the one who has not been, who will not observe the evil deeds that are done under the sun.

Again, I turned and observed what was vanity under the sun:

And this also is a grave misery: As he entered, so will he leave; what benefit is there to the one who toils for the wind?

This is what I have observed to be good and pleasing: to eat and drink and see benefit in all one’s labor with which he toils under the sun the few days of his life, which God has given to him, for this is his reward.

For who knows what is good for a person in life during the number of the days of his vain life, which pass like a shadow? For who can declare to a person what will occur after him under the sun?

Wisdom is good as an inheritance, an advantage to those who see the sun.

I have observed that this also is wisdom under the sun, and it seemed great to me.

This is an evil in all that is done under the sun, that the same fate comes to all people. Moreover, the hearts of the children of man are full of evil, and madness is in their hearts while they live; after that they go to the place of the dead.

Their love, hatred, and envy have already perished; they will never again have any share in all that is done under the sun.

Why do you spend money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to Me, and eat what is good, and let your soul delight itself in abundance.

Is it not from the Lord of Hosts that the people labor to feed fire, and the nations weary themselves for nothing?

What profit is a carved image when its maker has carved it, a cast image, and a teacher of lies, that its maker trusts in what he has shaped when he makes mute idols?

For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

Do not work for the food which perishes, but for that food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For God the Father has set His seal on Him.”

that you submit yourselves to such people, and to everyone who helps and labors with us.
