Deuteronomy 31:14

Modern English Version

The Lord said to Moses, “Behold, your days draw near when you must die. Call Joshua, and present yourselves in the tent of meeting, so that I may commission him.” So Moses and Joshua went, and presented themselves in the tent of meeting.

Now it was coming close to the day of David’s death, and he gave his son Solomon a charge, saying:

Therefore thus says the Lord, ‘You will not come down from the bed on which you have gone up but will surely die.’ ” Then Elijah departed.

In those days Hezekiah became ill and was near death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz came to him, and said to him, “Thus says the Lord: Set your house in order, for you shall die and not live.”

Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and the Adversary also came among them.

The Lord spoke to Moses face to face, just as a man speaks to his friend. When he returned to the camp, his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tent.

And whenever Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud descended and stood at the entrance of the tent, and the Lord spoke with Moses.

Be ready in the morning, and come up in the morning to Mount Sinai, and present yourself there to Me on the top of the mountain.

For the living know that they will die, but the dead do not know anything; they have no more reward, because the memory of them is forgotten.

In those days Hezekiah was mortally ill. And Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, came to him and said to him, “Thus says the Lord: Set your house in order, for you shall die, and not live.”

The Lord said to Moses, “Go up into this mountain of Abarim, and see the land which I have given to the Israelites.

When you have seen it, you also will be gathered to your people as Aaron your brother was gathered.

The Lord said to Moses, “Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and lay your hand on him,

I urge you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, and acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service of worship.

Their children, who have not known it, may hear and learn to fear the Lord your God, as long as you live in the land which you cross the Jordan to possess.”

He said to them, “I am one hundred and twenty years old today. I can no longer come and go. Also, the Lord has said to me, ‘You may not cross over the Jordan.’

He gave Joshua, the son of Nun, an exhortation, and said, “Be strong and of a good courage, for you will bring the Israelites into the land which I swore to them, and I will be with you.”

Die on the mount where you go up, and be gathered to your people, just as Aaron, your brother, died on Mount Hor and was gathered to his people,

So Moses, the servant of the Lord, died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the Lord.

So I must die in this land. I shall not cross over the Jordan, but you shall go over and possess that good land.

“Now, I am going the way of all the earth. You know in all your hearts and souls that not a single word has failed out of all the good things that the Lord your God has said concerning you. All came true for you. Not a single word among them failed.

Joshua called for all the Israelite tribes at Shechem and summoned the elders, clan heads, judges, and officials of Israel. They presented themselves before God.

Now to Him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you blameless before the presence of His glory with rejoicing,

But you have today rejected your God, who saves you from all your troubles and your distresses. And you have said to Him, ‘No, but set a king over us.’ Now therefore present yourselves before the Lord by your tribes, and by your clans.”

David said, “As the Lord lives, the Lord will strike him, or his day will come to die, or he will go down into battle and perish.
