Modern English Version

When a man takes a wife and marries her, and it happens that she finds no favor in his eyes because he has found some indecency in her, then let him write her a bill of divorce and put it in her hand and send her out of his house.

If he marries another wife, then he must not diminish the first one’s food, her clothing, or her marital rights.

Thus says the Lord: Where is the certificate of divorce by which I sent your mother away? Or to which of My creditors did I sell you? Behold, for your iniquities you were sold, and for your transgressions your mother was sent away.

If the woman is not defiled, but is clean, then she will be free and will conceive offspring.

Then Joseph her husband, being a just man and not willing to make her a public example, had in mind to divorce her privately.

“Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery, and whoever marries her who is divorced by her husband commits adultery.

If a man has two wives, one beloved and another unloved, and both have borne him children, both the loved one and the unloved one, and if the firstborn son is hers that is unloved,

If any man takes a wife and has sexual relations with her and then rejects her,

and they must fine him a hundred shekels of silver and give them to the father of the girl, because he has publicly humiliated a virgin of Israel. Then she is to remain his wife. He may not divorce her all his days.

then the man who lay with her must give fifty shekels of silver to the girl’s father, and she shall be his wife because he has violated her. He may not divorce her all his days.

When she departs out of his house, she may go and be another man’s wife.

If the second husband rejects her and writes her a bill of divorce and puts it in her hand and sends her out of his house, or if the second husband who took her to be his wife dies,
