Then I, Daniel, fainted and was sick for some days. Afterward I rose up again and did the king’s business. So I was astonished at the vision, but there was none to explain it.

And behold, one in the likeness of the sons of men touched my lips. Then I opened my mouth and spoke and said to him who stood before me, “O my lord, because of the vision, sorrows have come upon me, and I have retained no strength.

Therefore I was left alone and saw this great vision, and there remained no strength in me, and my countenance grew deathly pale, and I retained no strength.

Then Daniel, whose name was Belteshazzar, was astonished for a while, and his thoughts troubled him. The king said, “Belteshazzar, do not let the dream, or its interpretation, trouble you.” Belteshazzar answered, “My lord, if only the dream was for those who hate you, and its interpretation for your enemies!

Now I have heard of you, that the Spirit of God is in you; and that light, and understanding, and excellent wisdom have been found in you.

At this point the matter ended. As for me, Daniel, my thoughts troubled me much, and my countenance changed in me, but I kept the matter in my heart.

So he came near where I stood. And when he came, I was afraid and fell upon my face; but he said to me, “Understand, son of man, that the vision deals with the time of the end.”

I saw in the vision, and while I was looking, I was at Susa in the palace which is in the province of Elam. And I saw in the vision that I was by the canal of Ulai.

I saw him come close to the ram, and he was moved with rage against him, and struck the ram and broke his two horns. And there was no power in the ram to stand before him, but he cast him down to the ground and stamped on him. And there was none who could deliver the ram out of his hand.

I heard, and my body trembled; my lips quivered at the sound; rottenness entered my bones; my legs tremble beneath me. Yet I will wait quietly for the day when calamity comes on the people invading us.

Samuel lay until the morning; then he opened the doors of the house of the Lord. Now Samuel feared to report the vision to Eli.
