Amos 9:1

Modern English Version

I saw the Lord standing upon the altar, and He said: Strike the capitals so that the thresholds shake; break them off onto the heads of all of them. Those who remain I will slay with the sword. Not one of them will get away; not one fugitive will survive.

So the prophet said, “Now hear the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord sitting on His throne and the heavenly assembly was standing at His right and His left.

But God will wound the heads of His enemies, the hairy head of him who walks in his guilty ways.

As the appearance of the rainbow that is in the cloud on a day of rain, so was the appearance of the brightness all around. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of the Lord. And when I saw it, I fell on my face and heard a voice of one speaking.

Then the glory of the Lord went up from the cherub and stood over the threshold of the temple. And the house was filled with the cloud, and the court was full of the brightness of the glory of the Lord.

I will set My face against them. Though they go out from one fire, yet the fire shall devour them. Then you shall know that I am the Lord when I set My face against them.

Surely on the day I punish the transgressions of Israel, I will also punish the altars of Bethel; the horns of the altar will be cut off and fall to the ground.

“Therefore thus says the Lord: ‘Your wife will be a prostitute in the city, your sons and daughters will fall by the sword, and your land will be divided by measuring line; you yourself will die in an unclean land; and Israel will surely go into exile away from its land.’ ”

The high places of Isaac will be destroyed, the sanctuaries of Israel will be laid waste, and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.”

You went forth to deliver Your people, to deliver Your anointed one. You wounded the head of the house of the wicked, laying him bare from head to foot.    Selah

At that time I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and I will punish the men who are settled on their dregs, who say in their heart, “The Lord will not do good, nor will He do evil.”

Herds will lie down in her midst, beasts of every kind; the cormorant and the bittern will lodge on her pillars. Their voice will sing in the windows; desolation will be on the threshold; for He will lay bare the cedar work.

No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who at the Father’s side, has made Him known.

Then John bore witness, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it remained on Him.

At midday, O King, I saw along the way a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, shining around me and those who journeyed with me.

So Joshua said, “Roll large stones over the mouth of the cave, and station men to stand guard over it.

When I saw Him, I fell at His feet as though I were dead. Then He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last.

Another angel, having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense to offer with the prayers of all the saints on the golden altar which was before the throne.
