Why did you flee away secretly and sneak away from me and not tell me? I would have sent you away with joy and with songs, with the tambourine and harp.

Then David told the leaders of the Levites to position their brothers the singers with musical instruments, harps, lyres, and cymbals to resound with joyful songs.

four thousand shall be gatekeepers, and four thousand shall offer praises to the Lord with the instruments that I have made for praise.”

So the Levites stood with the instruments of David and the priests with the trumpets.

I also gathered for myself silver and gold and precious possessions of kings and provinces. I acquired male and female singers, and the sensual delights of any human being, even a harem of many concubines.

The lyre and the harp, the tambourine and pipe, and wine are in their feasts; but they do not regard the deeds of the Lord, or consider the work of His hands.

I will cause the noise of your songs to cease. And the sound of your harps shall be heard no more.

Take away from Me the noise of your songs; I will not listen to the melody of your harps.

“The songs of the temple shall become wailings on that day,” says the Lord God. “The corpses shall be many, cast down everywhere. Hush!”

For in earlier times of our lives it may have sufficed us to do what the Gentiles like to do, when we walked in immorality: lusts, drunkenness, carousing, debauchery, and abominable idolatries.

The sound of harpists and musicians, flute players and trumpeters, shall not be heard in you any more. No craftsman of any craft shall be found in you any more, and the sound of a millstone shall not be heard in you any more.
