But the people were silent and answered him not a word, for the king’s command was, “Do not answer him.”

And I have waited, (for they did not speak, but stood still and answered no more).

Thus I am like a man who does not hear, and in whose mouth is no response.

For no one knows his appointed time. Like fish caught in a cruel net, like birds caught in a snare, so people are ensnared in an evil time, when it suddenly falls on them.

But they held their peace, and answered him not a word, for the king’s commandment was, “Do not answer him.”

They said to him, “Thus says Hezekiah: This day is a day of trouble, and of rebuke, and of blasphemy, for children have come to birth, and there is no strength to bring them forth.

Yet let no one contend, and let none reprove another, for your people are like those that contend with a priest.

And when a relative or one who prepares the bodies picks them up to carry them out of the house, and says to someone in the recesses of the house, “Is anyone else with you?” and he says, “No,” he will say, “Hush!” —not to pronounce the name of the Lord.

Therefore, thus says the Lord: Behold, I am devising disaster against this family, from which you cannot remove your necks; and you will not walk haughtily, for it will be a time of calamity.

I heard, and my body trembled; my lips quivered at the sound; rottenness entered my bones; my legs tremble beneath me. Yet I will wait quietly for the day when calamity comes on the people invading us.

Therefore take up the whole armor of God that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Know this: In the last days perilous times will come.
