For I know your transgressions are many and your sins are grievous, you who oppress the just, who take a bribe and subvert the needy at the gate.

He who walks righteously and speaks uprightly, he who rejects unjust gain and shakes his hands from holding bribes, who stops his ears from hearing of bloodshed, and shuts his eyes from seeing evil:

but these two things shall come to you in a moment, in one day, the loss of children and widowhood. They shall come upon you in their fullness because of the multitude of your sorceries and for the great abundance of your enchantments.

who justify the wicked for a reward, and take away the justice of the righteous from him!

For I know their works and their thoughts. The time shall come to gather all nations and tongues. And they shall come and see My glory.

because they have committed folly in Israel, and have committed adultery with their neighbors’ wives, and have spoken lying words in My name, which I have not commanded them. Indeed, I know and am a witness, says the Lord.

To crush underfoot all the prisoners of the earth,

Because with lies you have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad, and strengthened the hands of the wicked that he should not turn from his wicked way and save his life,

I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hidden from Me; for now, O Ephraim, you have played the whore. Israel is defiled.

He that is courageous among the warriors will flee away naked on that day, says the Lord.

I will cut off the ruler from its midst, and will slay all its princes with him, says the Lord.

They hate the one who prosecutes at the gate, and abhor the one who speaks with integrity.

You who turn justice into bitterness and cast righteousness down to the ground!

Hear this, you who trample on the needy to make the poor of the land fail,

Her leaders judge for a bribe, her priests teach for a price, and her prophets practice divination for money. Yet upon the Lord they lean, saying, “Is not the Lord in our midst? Evil will not come upon us.”

Both hands are upon evil, to do it well. The prince and the judge request the bribe, the powerful asserts the craving of his very soul— they intertwine together.

Then I will draw near to you for judgment. I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, against the adulterers, against the perjurers, against those who oppress the hired worker in his wages, the widow and the fatherless, against those who turn aside the stranger, and do not fear Me, says the Lord of Hosts.

Which of the prophets have your fathers not persecuted? They have even killed those who foretold the coming of the Righteous One, of whom you have now become the betrayers and murderers,

You must appoint judges and officers in all your gates, which the Lord your God gives you, throughout your tribes, and they shall judge the people with righteous judgment.

Then when many disasters and troubles have fallen on them, this song will testify against them as a witness, for it must not be forgotten from the mouths of their descendants. For I know their intention which they are developing even now, before I have brought them into the land which I promised.”

Behold, the wages that you kept back by fraud from the laborers who harvested your fields are crying, and the cries of those who harvested have entered into the ears of the Lord of Hosts.

You have condemned and killed the righteous man who does not resist you.

So Boaz went up to the gate and sat down there. And behold, the redeemer, of whom he had spoken, passed by. So Boaz said, “Come over, friend, and sit here.” So he went over and sat down.

But his sons did not walk in his way, for they followed after unlawful gain, and they took bribes, and they perverted justice.
