So I will kindle a fire against the wall of Rabbah, and it will devour its fortresses, with a war cry on the day of battle, with a tempest on the day of the whirlwind.

In the spring of the year, the time when the kings go out to battle, David sent out Joab and his officers, all of Israel with him. They brought to ruin the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah, but David remained in Jerusalem.

Now Joab fought against Rabbah of the Ammonites and assumed control of the royal city.

He brought out the people who were in it, and he put them to work with saws, and iron picks, and iron axes, and sent them to work in the brick kiln. Thus he did to all of the cities of the Ammonites. Then David and all of the people returned to Jerusalem.

Now at the beginning of the year when kings would go out to war, Joab led the army and devastated the land of the Ammonites. He came and besieged Rabbah. But David remained in Jerusalem. So Joab struck Rabbah and overthrew it.

At the sound of the trumpet he says, ‘Aha’; he smells the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.

so pursue them with Your tempest, and terrify them with Your storm.

You shall be punished from the Lord of Hosts with thunder and earthquake and loud noise, with storm and tempest, and the flame of a devouring fire.

The Lord shall cause His glorious voice to be heard, and shall show the descending of His arm with the indignation of His anger, and with the flame of a devouring fire, with scattering, and cloudburst, and hailstones.

For all the sandals of the tramping warriors and all the garments rolled in blood shall be burned as fuel for the fire.

Behold, a whirlwind of the Lord has gone forth in fury, a tempestuous whirlwind. It will fall tempestuously upon the head of the wicked.

Therefore, behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will cause an alarm of war to be heard in Rabbah of the Ammonites; and it will be a desolate heap, and her towns will be burned with fire. Then Israel will be heir to those who were his heirs, says the Lord.

Appoint a way for the sword to come to Rabbah of the Ammonites and to Judah in Jerusalem the fortified.

At his right hand was the divination for Jerusalem: to appoint battering rams, to open the mouth for the slaughter, to lift up the voice with a battle shout, to appoint battering rams against the gates, to cast up a ramp, and to build a siege tower.

You, profane wicked prince of Israel, whose day has come in the time of the punishment of the end,

I will make Rabbah a meadow for camels, and the Ammonites a couching place for flocks. Thus you shall know that I am the Lord.

therefore, behold, I will stretch out My hand against you and deliver you for destruction to the nations. And I will cut you off from the peoples and cause you to perish from the countries. I will destroy you. Then you shall know that I am the Lord.

“At the time of the end the king of the South shall push at him. But the king of the North shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots and with horsemen and with many ships. And he shall enter the countries and shall overflow them and pass over.

So I will send fire against Moab, and it will devour the fortresses of Kerioth; Moab will die in uproar, with a war cry and the alarm of the trumpet.

So I scattered them about among all the nations whom they did not know, so the land was left desolate behind them with no one coming or going. And they made a desirable land desolate.

(For only Og, king of Bashan, remained of the remnant of the Rephaim. Behold, his bed was a bed of iron. Is it not in Rabbah of the Ammonites? It is nine cubits long and four cubits wide, according to the cubit of a man.)
