The counsel seemed good to Pharaoh and to all of his servants.

A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

A man has joy in the apt reply of his mouth, and a timely word spoken, how good it is!

But as for me, I am filled with power, with the Spirit of the Lord, and with justice and might, to declare to Jacob his transgression and to Israel his sin.

Now those who were scattered by the persecution that arose over Stephen traveled as far as Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, preaching the word to no one except Jews.

Some of them were men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who, when they had come to Antioch, spoke to the Hellenists, preaching the Lord Jesus.

News of these things came to the ears of the church which was in Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas to Antioch.

For he was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And many people were added to the Lord.

When he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they met with the church and taught a considerable crowd. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.

In these days prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch.

In the church that was in Antioch there were prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

Then it pleased the apostles and the elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men from among them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas, namely, Judas called Barsabas, and Silas, leading men among the brothers.

and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to speak.

The next day we who were Paul’s companions departed, and arrived at Caesarea, and entered the house of Philip the evangelist, who was one of the seven, and stayed with him.

And when the blood of Your martyr Stephen was shed, I was standing by consenting to his death, guarding the clothes of those who killed him.’

But they were not able to withstand the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke.

Brothers, look among yourselves for seven men who are known to be full of the Holy Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint over this duty.

Now Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

Then the high priest said, “Are these things so?”

So you also have those who hold the teaching of the Nicolaitans.

But this you have: You hate the works of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.
