For in previous days Theudas rose up, boasting to be somebody, to whom a number of about four hundred men joined themselves. He was killed, and all who obeyed him were dispersed and came to nothing.

For false christs and false prophets will arise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.

“So, if they say to you, ‘Look, He is in the desert,’ do not go there; or, ‘Look, He is in the private chambers,’ do not believe it.

For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many.

Are you not the Egyptian who in past days caused an uproar and led the four thousand men of the Sicarii out into the wilderness?”

Then he said to them, “Men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what you intend to do concerning these men.

Now a man named Simon was previously in the city practicing sorcery and astonishing the nation of Samaria, saying he was someone great,

But of these who seemed to be something —whatever they were, it makes no difference to me; God shows no partiality to anyone —for those who seemed to be something added nothing to me.

For if someone thinks himself to be something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.

For when they speak arrogant words of vanity, they entice by the lusts of the flesh and by depravity those who barely escaped from those who live in error.

And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed.

These men are grumblers, complainers, who walk after their own lusts. Their mouths speak arrogant words, and they flatter others to gain profit.

Then he carried me away in the Spirit into the wilderness. I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of blasphemous names, having seven heads and ten horns.

On her forehead a name was written: mystery, babylon the great, the mother of prostitutes and of the abominations of the earth.
