When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days, and no small storm was upon us, all hope that we should be saved was lost.

He sent darkness, and made it dark; and they did not rebel against His words.

You were wearied by the length of your road; yet you did not say, “There is no hope.” You have found renewed strength; therefore, you did not faint.

Withhold your foot from being unshod and your throat from thirst. But you said, “There is no hope. No! For I have loved strangers, and after them I will go.”

Then He said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Behold, they say, ‘Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost. We are cut off completely.’

But the Lord hurled a great wind upon the sea, and a mighty storm came upon the sea, so that the ship was in danger of breaking up.

“Immediately after the distress of those days, ‘the sun will be darkened, the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.’

On the third day we threw the tackle of the ship overboard with our own hands.

After they had long abstained from food, Paul stood in their midst and said, “Men, you should have listened to me and not have set sail from Crete, incurring this injury and loss.

Three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned; three times I suffered shipwreck; a night and a day I have been in the deep;

were at that time apart from Christ, alienated from the citizenship of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, without hope and without God in the world.

But I would not have you ignorant, brothers, concerning those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others who have no hope.
