When Ahab heard those words, he tore his clothes and put on sackcloth on his flesh and fasted and lay in sackcloth and walked meekly.

Because your heart was timid, and you humbled yourself before the Lord when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they should become a desolation and a curse, and you have torn your clothes and wept before Me, I also have heard you, declares the Lord.

Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to sever relations with all the women and their children according to the counsel of my lord and those who tremble at the commandment of our God. May this be done in accordance with the law.

Then all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered themselves together to Jerusalem within the three days. It was the ninth month, on the twentieth day of the month. All the people sat on the grounds of the house of God, trembling about this matter and also because of the great rain.

I put on righteousness, and it clothed me; my judgment was like a robe and a diadem.

For the Lord is righteous; He loves righteousness; His countenance beholds the upright.

My flesh trembles for fear of You, and I am afraid of Your judgments.

You love righteousness and hate wickedness; therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness more than your companions.

May he judge Your people with righteousness and Your poor with justice.

The Lord reigns; let the peoples tremble! He sits enthroned above the cherubim; let the earth quake.

It is an abomination to kings to commit wickedness, for the throne is established through righteousness.

Rejoice, O young man, in your youth, and let your heart cheer you in the days of your youth. Walk in the ways of your heart and in the sight of your eyes; but know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.

For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil.

If you observe in a district the oppression of the poor and violation of justice and righteousness, do not be astounded by the matter. For the high official is watched over by an even higher official, and there are even higher officials over them.

Come now, and let us reason together, says the Lord. Though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

How the faithful city has become a prostitute! She was full of justice; righteousness lodged in her, but now murderers.

In mercy the throne shall be established; and one who judges and seeks justice and is diligent in righteousness shall sit on it in truth in the tabernacle of David, judging.

Tremble, you women who are at ease; be troubled, you careless daughters; strip, undress, and put sackcloth on your waist.

Present your case, says the Lord. Bring forth your arguments, says the King of Jacob.

Seek the Lord while He may be found, call you upon Him while He is near.

For I, the Lord, love justice, I hate robbery in the burnt offering; and I will faithfully give them their recompense and make an everlasting covenant with them.

For My hand made all those things, thus all those things have come to be, says the Lord. But to this man I will look, even to him who is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembles at My word.

Thus says the Lord: Execute justice and righteousness, and deliver the robbed out of the hand of the oppressor. And do no wrong or violence to the stranger, the fatherless, or the widow, neither shed innocent blood in this place.

Is not My word like fire, says the Lord, and like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces?

When they heard all the words, they turned to one another in fear and said to Baruch, “We will surely tell the king of all these words.”

Thus says the Lord God: Let it suffice you officials of Israel. Remove violence and destruction, and execute justice and righteousness. Take away your exactions from My people, says the Lord God.

Many of those who sleep in the dust of the ground will awake—some to everlasting life, and others to everlasting shame and contempt.

Therefore, O king, let my counsel be acceptable to you, and break off your sins by righteousness and your iniquities by showing mercy to the poor, in case there may be a lengthening of your prosperity.”

That same night Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans was slain.

Sow to yourselves righteousness, reap mercy, break up your fallow ground; for it is time to seek the Lord, until He comes and rains righteousness upon you.

They speak mere words, swearing falsely in making a covenant. Thus judgment springs up like a poisonous plant in the furrows of the field.

On the day of our king the princes made him sick from the heat of wine. He stretched out his hand with scorners.

But let justice roll down like water, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.

Can horses run on a rocky crag? Can one plow the sea with oxen? But you have turned justice into poison, and the fruit of righteousness into wormwood,

But when the Jews of Thessalonica learned that the word of God was preached by Paul at Berea, they came there also, stirring up the crowds.

According to his custom, Paul went in, and on three Sabbaths he lectured to them from the Scriptures,

When they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some scoffed. But others said, “We will hear you again concerning this matter.”

When they heard this, they were stung in the heart and said to Peter and to the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”

I have hope in God that there will be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and the unjust, which they also expect.

At the same time he hoped that money would be given him by Paul, that he might release him. So he sent for him more often and conversed with him.

Then Agrippa said to Paul, “You almost persuade me to be a Christian.”

Trembling and astonished, he said, “Lord, what will You have me do?” The Lord said to him, “Rise up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”

I urge you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, and acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service of worship.

So then each of us shall give an account of himself to God.

in the day when, according to my gospel, God will judge the secrets of men through Jesus Christ.

Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time until the Lord comes. He will bring to light the hidden things of darkness and will reveal the purposes of the hearts. Then everyone will have commendation from God.

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive his recompense in the body, according to what he has done, whether it was good or bad.

For He says: “In an acceptable time I have listened to you, and in the day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.

But the Scripture has confined all things under sin, that the promise through faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe.

meekness, and self-control; against such there is no law.

I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom:

but hospitable, a lover of what is good, self-controlled, just, holy, temperate,

So terrible was the sight that Moses said, “I am terrified and trembling.”

But exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.

Therefore, since the promise of entering His rest remains, let us fear lest any of you should seem to come short of it.

of instruction about washings, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.

As it is appointed for men to die once, but after this comes the judgment,

You believe that there is one God; you do well. The demons also believe and tremble.

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts. Always be ready to give an answer to every man who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you, with gentleness and fear.

and to your knowledge, self-control; and to your self-control, patient endurance; and to your patient endurance, godliness;

In this the children of God and the children of the devil are revealed: Whoever does not live in righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.

Little children, let no one deceive you. The one who does righteousness is righteous, just as Christ is righteous.

Now therefore stand still that I may reason with you before the Lord, concerning all the righteous acts of the Lord, which He did for you and your fathers.
