The very night when Herod would have brought him out, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains. And the guards before the door were securing the prison.

The soldiers shook for fear of him and became like dead men.

So Peter was kept in prison. But the church prayed to God without ceasing for him.

Then the commander came and arrested him, and ordered that he be bound with two chains. Then he asked who he was and what he had done.

For this reason I have asked to see you and speak with you, because I am bound with this chain for the hope of Israel.”

“We found the prison securely shut and the guards standing outside before the doors. But when we opened it, we found no one inside.”

for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may speak boldly as I ought to speak.

I said, “I want to cut them into pieces; I will cause the memory of them to disappear from among men,”

May the Lord grant mercy to the house of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains.

So we may boldly say: “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”
