The victory that day was turned into mourning for all of the people, for the people heard that day, “The king is grieving for his son.”
The wrath of a king is like the roaring of a lion, but his favor is like dew on the grass.
In the light of the king’s countenance is life, and his favor is like a cloud of a spring rain.
It was told to Joab, “Behold, the king is weeping and mourning for Absalom.”
So the people entered the city by stealth that day, as a people who have been disgraced steal away when they flee from battle.
Now Joab the son of Zeruiah recognized that the king’s mind was on Absalom.
