Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, the advisor of David, from his city Giloh, while he was offering the sacrifices. Now the conspiracy was strong, for the number of people with Absalom was continually growing.

Even my own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, who ate of my bread, has lifted up the heel against me.

Now it was reported to David that Ahithophel was conspiring with Absalom, and David said, “O  Lord, make the advice of Ahithophel folly.”

The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination; how much more when he brings it with evil intent!

Now Ahithophel was the king’s counselor, and Hushai the Arkite was the king’s friend.

They proclaimed a fast and set Naboth on high among the people.

In the letters she wrote, “Proclaim a fast, and set Naboth on high among the people,

Balak did as Balaam said and offered a bull and a ram on each altar.

Now Absalom and all of the Israelite people entered Jerusalem, and Ahithophel was with him.

But You, O  Lord, be gracious to me, and raise me up, that I may repay them.

The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but the prayer of the upright is His delight.

To what purpose does incense from Sheba come to Me, and the sweet cane from a far country? Your burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor are your sacrifices sweet to Me.
