Did not Solomon king of Israel sin by these things? Yet among many nations there was no king like him. He was loved by his God, who made him king over all Israel. Nevertheless, foreign women caused even him to sin.

That night the word of the Lord came to Nathan:

Therefore Nathan spoke to Bathsheba the mother of Solomon, saying, “Have you not heard that Adonijah the son of Haggith reigns and David our lord does not know it?

While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased. Listen to Him.”

And behold, a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

The king was told, “Nathan the prophet is here,” and when he entered the king’s presence, he bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.

Then David comforted Bathsheba, his wife. He went to her and lay with her, so that she conceived a son. They named him Solomon, and the Lord loved him.

Now Joab fought against Rabbah of the Ammonites and assumed control of the royal city.

Now these were born to him in Jerusalem: Shimea, Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon, four sons by Bathsheba the daughter of Ammiel;

Behold, a son shall be born to you who shall be a man of rest. I will give him rest from all his enemies all around. Solomon will be his name, and I will give peace and tranquility to Israel in his days.

Of Benjamin he said: The beloved of the Lord will dwell in safety by Him, and the Lord will protect him all day long; he will dwell between His shoulders.

But Zadok the priest and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada and Nathan the prophet and Shimei and Rei and David’s mighty men did not join Adonijah.

Azariah the son of Nathan was over the officers, and Zabud the son of Nathan was principal officer and the king’s friend.
