Then they turned back and came to En-mishpat (that is, Kadesh) and conquered all the country of the Amalekites and also the Amorites who lived in Hazezon Tamar.

Then David asked the young man who was reporting to him, “Where are you from?” He responded, “I am the son of one who sought refuge, an Amalekite.”

When he turned around, he noticed me. He summoned me, and I responded, ‘Here I am.’

“Then he said to me, ‘Stand over me and kill me, for I have been mortally wounded, yet I am still alive.’

Then he looked on Amalek; he took up his proverb and said: “Amalek was the first of the nations, but his end will be that he perishes forever.”

Now go and strike Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and do not have compassion on them but put to death both man and woman, child and infant, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’ ”

David and his men went up and invaded the Geshurites, the Girzites, and the Amalekites. For they were inhabitants of the land from of old, as you come to Shur, even to the land of Egypt.

Now when David and his men came to Ziklag on the third day, the Amalekites had raided the south as far as Ziklag. They had struck Ziklag and burned it with fire.

Then David said to him, “To whom do you belong? And where are you from?” And he said, “I am a young man of Egypt, servant to an Amalekite. And my master left me, because three days ago I fell sick.

David struck them from twilight until the evening of the next day, and no man escaped except four hundred young men who rode on camels and fled.
