For the Lord had caused the Aramean camp to hear the sound of chariots, horses, even the sound of a large army, so that they said to one another, “Behold, the king of Israel has hired the kings of the Hittites and the kings of the Egyptians to come against us.”

There they are in great fear, for God is with the company of the righteous.

Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help, and rely on horses, and trust in chariots because they are many, and in horsemen because they are very strong, but they do not look to the Holy One of Israel nor seek the Lord!

How then will you turn away one captain of the least of my master’s servants and rely on Egypt for chariots and for horsemen?

Also her mercenaries are in her midst like fat bulls, for they also have turned back and have fled away together. They did not stand their ground because the day of their calamity has come upon them, even the time of their punishment.

When they went, I heard the noise of their wings, like the noise of abundant waters, as the voice of the Almighty, the noise of a tumult as the noise of an army camp. Whenever they stood still, they let down their wings.

The sound of the wings of the cherubim was heard even in the outer court, like the voice of the Almighty God when He speaks.

They had breastplates like breastplates of iron, and the sound of their wings was like the sound of chariots with many horses running to battle.

Every man stood in his place all around the camp, but the men in the camp ran, shouted, and fled.

There was trembling in the camp, in the field, and among all the people. The garrison and the raiders also trembled, and the ground quaked. It was the fear of God.

Then David answered and said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother of Joab, saying, “Who will go down with me to Saul to the camp?” And Abishai said, “I will go down with you.”
