The king of Israel said, “Alas! The Lord has called these three kings to give them into the hand of Moab!”

Then she went and told the man of God. And he said, “Go, sell the oil, and pay your debt, and you and your children can live on the rest.”

When a servant of the man of God rose early in the morning and went out, behold, an army with horses and chariots surrounded the city. And his servant said to him, “Alas, my master! What will we do?”

So he went with them. And they came to the Jordan and cut down trees.

Then the man of God said, “Where did it fall?” When he showed him the place, he cut off a stick, and threw it in there, and he made the iron float.

The wicked borrows and does not repay, but the righteous is generous and gives.

If the iron is blunt, and one does not sharpen the edge, then he must use more strength; but wisdom is profitable to succeed.

He shall cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by the Mighty One.

Standing far off for the fear of her torment, they will say: ‘Alas, alas for that great city, that mighty city, Babylon! In one hour your judgment has come.’

and saying: ‘Alas, alas, that great city, that was arrayed in fine linen, in purple and scarlet, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls!

They threw dust on their heads and cried out, weeping and wailing, and saying: ‘Alas, alas, that great city, in which all who had ships in the sea grew rich from her wealth! In one hour she has been laid waste!’
