Then the woman whose child was the living one spoke to the king, for she yearned with compassion for her son, and she said, “O my lord, give her the living child, and do not kill it.” But the other said, “Let it be neither mine nor yours and divide it.”

Can a woman forget her nursing child, and have no compassion on the son of her womb? Even these may forget, yet I will not forget.

As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; and you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.

The hands of compassionate women have boiled their own children; they became their food in the destruction of the daughter of my people.

If you will not listen to Me for all this, but walk contrary to Me,

You shall eat the flesh of your sons and the flesh of your daughters.

He will lay siege on you in all your towns until your high and fortified walls in which you trusted come down throughout all your land, and he will lay siege on you in all your towns throughout all your land which the Lord your God has given you.

You will eat the offspring of your own body, the flesh of your sons and of your daughters, which the Lord your God has given you, during the siege and distress in which your enemies will persecute you.

and toward her afterbirth that comes out from between her legs, and toward her children whom she will bear. For she will secretly eat them because of lack during the siege and distress in which your enemy will persecute you in your towns.
