There was a great famine in Samaria, and they besieged it until a donkey’s head was sold for eighty shekels of silver, and one-fourth of a kab of dove droppings for five shekels of silver.

When all the land of Egypt was hungry, the people cried to Pharaoh for food, and Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, “Go to Joseph. Do whatever he says to you.”

Elijah went to show himself to Ahab. And there was a great famine in Samaria.

On the ninth day of the fourth month the famine was severe in the city, and there was no food for the people of the land.

As the king of Israel was walking across the city wall, a woman cried out to him, “Help, my lord king.”

The king got up in the night and said to his servants, “I will show you what the Arameans have done to us. They know that we are starving, so they left the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, ‘When they come out of the city, we will capture them alive and get into the city.’ ”

If we say, ‘Let us enter the city,’ the famine is in the city, and we shall die there. But if we sit here, we die also. Now come, let us fall into the camp of the Arameans. If they spare our lives, we will live, and if they kill us, we will die.”

If I go out into the field, behold, those slain with the sword! And if I enter the city, behold, those who are sick with famine! Indeed, both the prophet and the priest go about into a land that they do not know.

Behold, the siege ramps have come to the city to take it. And the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans who fight against it, because of the sword, and of the famine, and of the pestilence, and what You have spoken has come to pass, and behold, you see it.

In the fourth month, in the ninth day of the month, the famine was so severe in the city that there was no bread for the people of the land.

because bread and water will be scarce, and they will be appalled with one another, and waste away for their iniquity.

When I have broken the supply of your bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall ration your bread again by weight, and you shall eat and not be satisfied.
