2 Kings 23:3

Modern English Version

The king stood by a pillar and made a covenant before the Lord to follow the Lord, to keep His commandments, His testimonies, and His statutes with all his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of this covenant that were written in this book. All the people agreed with the covenant.

Then she looked, and the king was standing by a pillar according to custom, the captains and the trumpeters by the king, and all the people of the land were rejoicing and blowing trumpets. So Athaliah tore her clothes and cried, “Conspiracy, conspiracy!”

Jehoiada made a covenant between the Lord and the king and the people, that they should be the people of the Lord, and also between the king and the people.

You must follow after the Lord your God, fear Him, and keep His commandments, obey His voice, and you must serve Him, and cling to Him.

Now may the God of peace, who through the blood of the eternal covenant brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the Great Shepherd of the sheep,

and to Jesus, the Mediator of a new covenant; and to the sprinkled blood that speaks better than that of Abel.

They will ask for the way to Zion with their faces in its direction. They will come that they may join themselves to the Lord in a perpetual covenant that will not be forgotten.

You shall swear, “As the Lord lives,” in truth, in justice, and in righteousness; then the nations shall bless themselves in Him, and in Him they shall glory.

Obey the king’s command because of your oath to God.

So on the basis of all this, we are executing a written agreement that is being sealed by our princes, Levites, and priests.

Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to sever relations with all the women and their children according to the counsel of my lord and those who tremble at the commandment of our God. May this be done in accordance with the law.

Now it is in my heart to make a covenant with the Lord God of Israel so that His burning anger might turn away from us.

And Jehoiada made a covenant between himself, the people, and the king that they would be a people dedicated to the Lord.

And she saw the king standing by the pillar at the entrance with the officials and trumpeters next to the king, and all of the people of the land were rejoicing and blowing trumpets, and singers with their instruments with songs were offering up praise. Then Athaliah tore her garments and yelled, “Treachery! Treachery!”

These are the words of the covenant which the Lord commanded Moses to make with the Israelites in the land of Moab, besides the covenant which He made with them in Horeb.

It will be, if you will diligently obey My commandments which I am commanding you today, to love the Lord your God, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul,

Now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways, and to love Him, and to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul,

If you ever forget the Lord your God and go after other gods and serve them and worship them, then I testify against you today that you will surely perish.

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.

Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the ordinances which the Lord your God commanded to teach you, so that you may observe them in the land which you are crossing over to possess,

These are the testimonies, and the statutes, and the ordinances which Moses spoke to the Israelites, after they came out of Egypt,

Moses came and told the people all the words of the Lord and all the ordinances. Then all the people answered with one voice and said, “All the words which the Lord has said we will do.”

This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord after the king Zedekiah had made a covenant with all the people who were in Jerusalem to proclaim liberty to them:

You recently turned and did what was right in My sight by proclaiming liberty, every man to his neighbor; and you made a covenant before Me in the house that is called by My name.

And all Judah rejoiced over this oath because they swore with their whole heart and they sought Him with all their desire; and He was found by them, and the Lord gave them rest all around.

Also I shook out the front of my garment and said, “Like this, may God shake out every man from his house and from his labor who does not carry out this promise. Exactly like this, may he be shaken out and emptied.” And all the congregation said, “Amen,” and praised the Lord. And the people did according to this promise.

Now the names of those on the sealed agreement were: Nehemiah, the magistrate, the son of Hakaliah, and Zedekiah.
