In his days Pharaoh Necho, king of Egypt, went up against the king of Assyria to the Euphrates River. King Josiah went to meet him, but he killed him at Megiddo when he had seen him.

Concerning Egypt, about the army of Pharaoh Necho king of Egypt, which was by the Euphrates River in Carchemish, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon defeated in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah:

On that day the mourning in Jerusalem will be as great as that of Hadad Rimmon in the plain of Megiddo.

“Kings came to wage war. The kings of Canaan waged war in Taanach, by the waters of Megiddo; they took no money as profit.

They gathered them together to the place which in Hebrew is called Armageddon.

Oh the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable are His ways!

Therefore, behold, I will gather you to your fathers, and you will be gathered to your grave in peace. Your eyes will not see all the evil which I am about to bring upon this place.” Then they brought the king a report.

But Amaziah would not listen. So Jehoash king of Israel went up, and he and Amaziah king of Judah looked one another in the face at Beth-shemesh, which belongs to Judah.

Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash son of Jehoahaz, son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, “Come, let us look one another in the face.”

But when Ahaziah the king of Judah saw this, he fled on the path to the garden house. Jehu chased after him and said, “Shoot him too.” So they shot him on the ascent to Gur, which is by Ibleam. And he fled to Megiddo and died there.

Baana the son of Ahilud in Taanach, Megiddo, and all Beth-shan that is by Zarethan beneath Jezreel, and from Beth-shan to Abel Meholah as far as the other side of Jokmeam;

Manasseh did not drive out the inhabitants of Beth-shan, Taanach, Dor, Ibleam, Megiddo, or their daughter villages, for the Canaanites were determined to live in that land.

In Issachar and Asher, Manasseh was assigned districts: Beth-shan, Ibleam, Dor, En-dor, Taanach, Megiddo, Naphoth, and their respective villages.

Now the rest of the deeds of Josiah, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Judah?

Moreover take up a lamentation for the officials of Israel,

Do not weep for the dead nor bemoan him, but weep constantly for him who goes away; for he will return no more nor see his native country.

For thus says the Lord concerning Shallum the son of Josiah king of Judah, who became king instead of Josiah his father, who went from this place: He will not return any more,

but will die in the place where they have led him captive and will see this land no more.

Let not the swift flee away, nor the mighty man escape; they will stumble and fall towards the north by the Euphrates River.
