Elijah said to Elisha, “Tarry here, I ask you, for the Lord has sent me to Bethel.” But Elisha said to him, “As the Lord lives, and as you live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel.

He called the name of that place Bethel, but previously the name of the city was called Luz.

At that point, the king got some advice and made two golden calves and said to the people, “It is too difficult for you to go up to Jerusalem. Behold, your gods, O Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.”

He set one in Bethel, and he put the other in Dan.

So he made offerings on the altar that he had made in Bethel on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, a holiday he imagined in his own heart, and ordained a feast for the Israelites, and he sacrificed on the altar and burned incense.

He went up from there to Bethel, and going up on the way, little boys came out of the city and made fun of him and said to him, “Go up, you bald head! Go up, you bald head!”

Elijah said to him, “Elisha, stay here, for the Lord has sent me to Jericho.” And he said, “As the Lord lives, and as you live, I will not leave you.” So they entered Jericho.

Then Elijah said to him, “Stay here, for the Lord has sent me to the Jordan.” And he said, “As the Lord lives, and as you live, I will not leave you.” And the two of them went on.

Then the boy’s mother said, “As the Lord lives, and as you live, I will not leave without you.” And he got up and followed her.

You shall swear, “As the Lord lives,” in truth, in justice, and in righteousness; then the nations shall bless themselves in Him, and in Him they shall glory.

They went out from us, but they were not of us, for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have remained with us. But they went out, revealing that none of them were of us.

And she said, “Oh, my lord! As you live, my lord, I am the woman who stood by you here praying to the Lord.

When Saul saw David going out against the Philistine, he said to Abner, the commander of the army, “Whose son is this youth, Abner?” And Abner said, “As your soul lives, O king, I do not know.”

Now my lord, as the Lord lives, and as your soul lives, because the Lord has restrained you from coming in bloodshed and from avenging yourself with your own hand, now let your enemies, and those seeking to do evil to my lord, be as Nabal.
