It is enough for the disciple that he be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub, how much more will they call those of his household?

They sent their disciples to Him with the Herodians, saying, “Teacher, we know that You are truthful and teach the way of God truthfully, and are swayed by no one. For You do not regard the person of men.

saying, “Sir, we remember that deceiver saying while He was still alive, ‘After three days I will rise.’

When they came to Him, they said, “Teacher, we know that You are true and swayed by no man. For You do not regard the person of men, but truthfully teach the way of God. Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, or not?

There was much complaining among the people concerning Him. For some said, “He is a good Man.” Others said, “No, He deceives the people.”

They said, “Cornelius, a centurion, a man who is righteous and fears God and is of good report throughout the nation of the Jews, was directed by a holy angel to summon you to his house to hear your words.”

So they came and entreated them. And they brought them out, asking them to leave the city.

“Ananias, a devout man according to the law, who was well spoken of by all the Jews living there,

“We have found this man a troublemaker, instigating riots among all the Jews throughout the world, and a ringleader of the sect of the Nazarenes.

But we think it is proper to hear from you what you think. For concerning this sect, we know that it is spoken against everywhere.”

When they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding no way to punish them, because of the people. For all glorified God for what was done,

No one else dared join them, but the people respected them.

Brothers, look among yourselves for seven men who are known to be full of the Holy Spirit and of wisdom, whom we will appoint over this duty.

Why not rather say, “Let us do evil that good may come,” as we are slanderously accused and as some claim that we say? Their condemnation is just.

But as God is true, we did not tell you “Yes” and “No.”

I say to my reproach that we were too weak for that. But whenever anyone is bold (I speak foolishly), I am bold also.

But be that as it may. I did not burden you. Nevertheless, being crafty, I caught you with deceit.

But we have renounced the secret things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by expressing the truth and commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.

For our exhortation was not from deceit, nor from impure motive, nor in treachery.

Moreover he must have a good reputation among those who are outsiders, so that he does not fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

For to this end we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men, especially of those who believe.

Therefore let us go forth to Him outside the camp, bearing the reproach that He bore.

If you are reproached because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified.

Demetrius receives good reports from everyone and from the truth itself. Yes, and we also testify, and you know that our testimony is true.

Behold, I will make those of the synagogue of Satan, who say they are Jews and are not, but lie. Behold, I will make them come and worship before your feet and to know that I have loved you.
