So couriers ran throughout all Israel and Judah with letters from the king and his officials, as the king had commanded, which read: “Sons of Israel, return to the Lord of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel that He might turn again to the remnant of you who have escaped from the king of Assyria.

At the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, Elijah the prophet came near and said, “The Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel, let it be known this day that You are God in Israel and that I am Your servant and that I have done all these things at Your word.

Pul the king of Assyria came against the land, and Menahem gave Pul a thousand talents of silver, that he might help him strengthen his control of the kingdom.

In the days of Pekah king of Israel, Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria came and took Ijon, Abel of Beth-maacah, Janoah, Kedesh, Hazor, Gilead, Galilee, and all the land of Naphtali, and then exiled them to Assyria.

O  Lord, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, our fathers, keep this forever in the thoughts and intentions of the heart of Your people and direct their heart to You.

So the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul the king of Assyria, even the spirit of Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria, and he led the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half-tribe of Manasseh into exile and brought them to Halah, Habor, Hara, and to the river of Gozan to this day.

So Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria came against him, but he brought him distress and not strength.

The letters were sent by mounted couriers into all the king’s provinces to cause the destruction, slaughter, and annihilation of all Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and even to plunder their possessions.

So the couriers riding on royal steeds went out with haste and urgency by the king’s edict. The decree was given at the citadel of Susa.

“Now my days are swifter than a runner; they flee away; they see no good.

Unless the Lord of Hosts had left to us a very small remnant, we would have been as Sodom; we would have been like Gomorrah.

But yet in it shall be one-tenth, and it shall return, and shall be burned, as a terebinth tree or as an oak, whose stump remains when it is cut down, so the holy seed is its stump.”

Now these are the words of the letter that Jeremiah the prophet sent from Jerusalem to the rest of the elders of the captivity, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the people whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away captive from Jerusalem to Babylon.

Return, O backsliding sons, says the Lord, for I am married to you. And I will take you, one from a city and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion.

If you will return, O Israel, says the Lord, return to Me. And if you will put away your abominations out of My sight, then you shall not be moved.

One courier will run to meet another, and one messenger to meet another, to show the king of Babylon that his city has been captured from end to end,

Let us search and try our ways, and return to the Lord!

Restore us to Yourself, O  Lord, that we may return! Renew our days as of old,

Say to them: As I live, says the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn, turn from your evil ways! For why will you die, O house of Israel?

Return, O Israel, to the Lord your God, for you have stumbled because of your iniquity.

Come, let us return to the Lord, for He has torn, and He will heal us. He has struck, and He will bind us up.

so you will say to them, Thus says the Lord of Hosts: Return to Me, and I will return to you, says the Lord of Hosts.

Do not be like your fathers to whom the former prophets cried, “Thus says the Lord of Hosts: Turn away from your evil ways and deeds!” But they did not listen or pay attention to Me, says the Lord.

Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
