And when Asa heard these words of the prophecy of Azariah son of Oded the prophet, he was encouraged and removed the detestable idols from the entire land of Judah and Benjamin and from the cities that he captured in the hills of Ephraim. And he repaired the altar of the Lord that was before the vestibule of the Lord.

For Solomon went after Ashtoreth, the goddess of the Sidonians, and after Molech, the abomination of the Ammonites.

Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that is close to Jerusalem, and for Molech, the abomination of the Ammonites.

In the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Asa became king over Judah.

He put an army in all the fortified cities of Judah and set military garrisons in the land of Judah, even in the cities of Ephraim that Asa his father had captured.

“And behold, Amariah the chief priest is over you in all matters of the Lord; and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, for all the king’s matters; also, the Levites will be officials before you. Deal courageously, and the Lord will be with the good.”

At that time Solomon offered up burnt offerings on the altar of the Lord that he built before the vestibule,

He hews down cedars for himself, and takes the cypress and the oak, which he raises for himself among the trees of the forest. He plants a fir, and the rain makes it grow.

who sit among the graves and lodge in the monuments; who eat swine’s flesh, and the broth of abominable things is in their vessels;

First I will doubly recompense their iniquity and their sin, because they have defiled My land; they have filled My inheritance with the carcasses of their detestable and abominable things.

So I went in and saw every form of creeping things, and abominable beasts, and all the idols of the house of Israel, portrayed upon the wall all around.

Therefore you shall keep My ordinances, that you do not commit any one of these abominable customs which were committed before you, so that you do not defile yourselves by them: I am the Lord your God.

They removed the foreign gods from among them and worshipped the Lord, and He could no longer endure the suffering of Israel.
